Destroyer Modernization Description
  • DDG Mod provides a comprehensive mid-life modernization strategy for the DDG 51 class to ensure a mission-relevant service life of 35+ years
    • Reduces manning and total ship class ownership costs via Hull, Mechanical & Electrical technology upgrades (Full Integrated Bridge Upgrade, Machinery and Damage Control Upgrades, Gigabit Ethernet DMS, Wireless Communications, Digital Video Surveillance, Quality of Life Upgrades, Advanced Galley)
    • Provides COTS computing equipment in an Open Architecture positioning DDGs to more affordably receive future ballistic missile defense, air defense and other upgrades
  • DDG Mod improves Operational Availability through reduced maintenance and mission life extension
    • Reduces combat system and computer program maintenance costs through baseline commonality and consolidation
    • Addresses obsolescence issues by retiring unsupportable systems
  • Applies to DDGs 51 – 112 with a focus on earlier Flight I ships (DDG 51 – 71)
